Aerodrome Regulations

  • Aerodrome operates unlicensed
  • No circuit training permitted
  • No practised forced landings permitted
  • Pilots are responsible for the safety and conduct of their passengers whilst airside at this aerodrome
  • Aerodrome not available to microlights
  • Aerodrome not available to aircraft unable to communicate by radio

 

Aerodrome Warnings

  • Bedford Aerodrome forms the eastern 1100m of the original RAE Bedford 3000m runway. On the disused western part of the runway intensive car storage takes place. There is a fence at the western end of the new Bedford Aerodrome runway.
  • Occasional helicopter movements to Bedford Autodrome helipad 1 nm from runway
  • Aerodrome is a major landmark in the area and frequently used as a VRP
  • Aircraft using the instrument approach procedure for Cranfield may be overhead at an altitude of 2500 ft
  • Visiting aircraft should contact Cranfield Approach on 122.855 for traffic co-ordination purposes

 

Arrival Instructions

  • All arrivals must be on runway 08 unless wind prevents this
  • Any 26 arrivals must comply with the noise abatement procedures and runway approach plan here
  • EGBF is VFR only - IFR traffic must either make an initial approach to Cranfield and position to EGBF after cloud break, or cancel IFR and continue VFR
  • VFR traffic must contact Cranfield Approach on 122.855 at least 10 miles before arrival at EGBF
  • IFR traffic must co-ordinate with Cranfield Approach on 122.855 at least 15 miles before arrival at EGBF
  • Bedford Radio may be unmanned but make blind calls on 119.030
  • If inbound from outside the UK, pilots must ensure the GAR requirements are complied with as here
  • On landing please use taxiway A or B to Stand A
  • Please call 01234 332400 to arrange collection from the Aerodrome upon landing

Departure Instructions

  • All departures must be on runway 26 unless wind prevents this
  • Any 08 departures must comply with the noise abatement procedures and runway approach plan here
  • When departing runway 26, climb straight ahead to 1000 ft AGL
  • If it is necessary to depart runway 08, turn right 20 deg asap after take off and climb 1000 ft AGL
  • Bedford Radio may be unmanned but make blind calls on 119.030
  • VFR departures should call Cranfield Approach on 122.855 immediately on departure
  • Aircraft should not climb above 1500ft on QNH unless talking to Cranfield Aproach
  • IMPORTANT - Cranfield IFR traffic may be overhead EGBF at altitude 2500ft
  • For IFR departures pilots should call Cranfield ATC on 01234 750005 immediately prior to departure
  • All departures must avoid the Cranfield instrument approach and ATZ
  • If departing to outside the UK, pilots must ensure the GAR requirements are complied with as here
